Finding qualified employees is a key challenge for Queensland"s mining industry, Mining Minister Stirling Hinchliffe says.Giving the opening address at the Mining 2011 Resources Convention in Brisbane, Mr Hinchliffe said the government was committed to working with the mining community.Henan Hongxing Mining Machinery Co., Ltd is a joint-stock mining machinery manufacturing enterprise integrated in scientific research, production and marketing. It is located at the High & New Technology Industries Development Zone of Zhengzhou,China with an area of 50 thousand m2 which includes 15,000 m2 of standard heavy duty industrial workshop. Equipments are more than 160 pieces, including large and medium sized metal processing, riveting and installing equipments. There are more than 660 workers including 80 administrators with secondary and senior occupational titles and engineering technicians. In order to promote the competitive strength, the advanced technologies have been introduced from America, Germany, Japan and Australia, which established the international advanced production line, first-class modern testing base as well as research centers of sand maker, mill and mine-selecting equipment. Scientific management, advanced processing technology and innovative manufacturing theory make the company become the mining machinery manufacturing and exporting base in China."Finding the kind of people to fill the expanding job demand in the sector is becoming a critical challenge for the industry," he told the conference."For the government, our challenge is to ensure the benefits of these booming industries are spread widely as possible across the Queensland economy and to keep as much of the employment and economic benefit in Queensland as we can."Investment in local skills development, in collaboration with industry, is one of the key measures the government has focused on achieving."Addressing environmental concerns, the minister said the value of farm land should be appreciated."It needs to be recognised that prime farming land is both a finite and largely irreplaceable commodity in Queensland," Mr Hinchliffe said."Its protection as a source of food and fibre production and a major source of long-term regional employment and eco development is therefore of prime importance."Mr Hinchliffe told the conference that Queensland has attracted a record $1.126 billion in resource exploration investment between June 2010 and 2011."It"s an outstanding performance and it underpins Queensland"s international reputation as an attractive exploration investment destination," he said.He added the Bligh government is on track to meet its election commitment to make Queensland the greenfield exploration capital of Australia by 2020."It"s a great result for Queensland and it sends a clear message to investors that we are well and truly open for business."The last year"s investment includes $463.1 million for petroleum and gas exploration, $456.4 million for coal, and $207.1 million for mineral exploration, Mr Hinchliffe said.The figures represent a 23 per cent increase over the $917.1 million in exploration investment of the previous year.
