Even if it is a new destination and you have to look up everything yourself, it is quite possible to research the location, and compare the amenities to determine where to stay and how to get there.
Another advantage of booking with a travel agent is that you have a certain amount of protection. Not all destinations are safe for tourists and travel agents receive newsletters and discuss trouble spots amongst themselves so that they are aware of where to go to be safe or what precautions should be taken at certain spots.
Booking via a travel agent you will also be protected.
