ROB DA BANK

Rob da Bank grew up playing trombone in brass bands before playing hip-hop and funk in clubs as DJ Rob da Bank. As a roving Muzik journalist in the mid 90s, Rob da Bank founded Sunday Best in 1995; a weekly freestyle club night in London. This set the blueprint for one of the most respected and influential party organisers, festival owners, DJs and record labels in the UK.

In 1997, Rob da Bank wanted an outlet for some of the amazing music he was hearing and so Sunday Best Recordings was born, launching Groove Armada and Lemon Jelly, propelling dan le sac Vs Scroobius Pip and teenage rockabillies Kitty, Daisy and Lewis into the charts.

In 2004, Rob held the first Bestival and, since then, it has established itself as one of the most idiosyncratic and popular annual music gatherings. The three times winner of Best Medium Sized Festival began with an audience of 7,000 people; three years later, the early bird tickets sold out in just eight minutes. Now, it treats 40,000 to madcap features (ukulele players, physics demonstrations, laughter clubs) and a killer line-up. The fancy dress theme now compels forum members to spend months on their costumes, with monthly dinners and costume AGMs.

Rob da Bank's cult early morning BBC radio show, Blue Room, between 2002 and 2006 wowed milkmen and post-clubbers alike with its sneaking ambient and spaced-out dub and electro. These days, he presides over four hours of weekly radio, playing a kaleidoscopic soundtrack taking in anything from dubstep to folk to electronica, as well as featuring guests from Bobby Gillespie to Lily Allen. As a result of the BBC's 'Listen Again' feature, his radio shows and ever-popular Sunday Best podcasts are heard worldwide and da Bank is considered one of the world's most influential tastemakers.

And if two radio shows, two festivals, club DJ, a record label and a music publishing company wasn't enough, in early 2009 Rob published a book on the world of festivals (Rob da Bank's A-Z of Festivals). Rob's best just keeps getting better.
