Beauty Kashmir The word Kashmir is an ancient Sanskrit word derived from the name of Kashyap Rishi, who as per sacred texts, protected the local people from a monster named Jalodbhava. As a mark of respect the local people named the region as 'Kashyap-Mar' and 'Kashyap-Pura'. The name Kashmir in Sanskrit means land desiccated from water (ka) water and (shimeera) to desiccate.

Kashmir used to be one of the popular tourist destinations of India attracting thousands of tourists from all over. However, acts of violence and terrorism scared away the tourists from the region but, with recent positive development in the region, tourists have once again started to flock to the region. Some of the popular tourist attractions of Kashmir include the old city, Hazratbal Mosque, Jama Masjid, Imambara Zadibal, Shankaracharya Temple, Budshah Tomb, Hari Parbat Fort, Chatti Padshahi Gurudwara, Martand Temple, Kheer Bhawani, Avantipur Ruins and much more.

For accommodation, there is no dearth of good hotels in Kashmir offering quality lodging facilities along with various sorts of services and facilities. The hotels in Kashmir are present across all budget categories ranging from the luxury hotels and resorts to the budget accommodation, catering to the needs and preferences of the myriad of travelers visiting the region.

Kashmir Valley is also well connected to the rest of the country and as such is easily accessible from various quarters of the country by means of air, rail and roadways. The region has its very own international airport at Srinagar and a domestic airport in Leh. In addition to that, there is also some rail presence in the region, with the farthest region covered by the Indian Railways being Udhampur region. However, a rail link from Jammu to Srinagar is in progress and is expected to become operational by the year 2012. Along with that, there is robust road connectivity to the region, with ample numbers of buses and jeeps regularly plying to the region from the neighboring areas.
