Green Travel For A True Meaningful Vacation

Traveling can be done in different ways. You can travel the conventional way and join a package tour to your favorite destination. You will probably find a cheap package tour where you will join a whole busload of package tourists who go from place to place seeing the sights from behind the glass and stopping frequently for short intervals. You will see most sights that thousand of tourists have seen before you. This is what the majority of travelers are doing when they go and travel abroad.

What is wrong with this you could ask. On the one hand it does seem to be the most respectful way towards the local people, the local culture and the local environment when you visit a foreign country. On the other hand the experience you will get by joining the mass tourism is not particularly meaningful and authentic. You will quickly see the main sights but you will not really experience the local people, the local culture and the local beauty of the place. It might be a more meaningful and worthwhile experience to get to know the local people and the local culture instead of doing mass tourism.

Another way to travel is by doing meaningful travel, the green way. Green Travel is a form of tourism intended as a low-impact and often small scale alternative to standard commercial mass tourism. Its purpose may be to educate the traveler, to directly benefit the economic development and empowerment of local communities and to foster respect for different cultures. Green Travel has been considered a critical endeavor by environmentalists so that future generations may experience destinations relatively untouched by human intervention.

Now Green Travel is becoming more and more mainstream for the typical traveler who is looking for a more meaningful travel experience. Travelers are starting to realize the impact of their visit to a foreign country for the local people, the local culture and the local environment. They are more and more aware of their actions and are starting to choose to go about in a different way to lower the impact of their trip.

Generally, Green Travel focuses on socially responsible travel and environmental sustainability. Green Travel is intended to offer tourists insight into the impact of human beings on the environment and to foster a greater appreciation of our natural habitats.

Responsible Green Travel includes programs that minimize the negative aspects of conventional tourism on the environment and enhance the cultural integrity of local people. Therefore, in addition to evaluating environmental and cultural factors, an integral part of Green Travel is the promotion of recycling, energy efficiency, water conservation and creation of economic opportunities for local communities. For these reasons, Green Travel often appeals to advocates of environmental and social responsibility.

It is up to the individual traveler to choose which vacation they want to do. But realize that you have a choice in the way you travel on your next trip abroad. You can go in the conventional mass tourism way or go for a meaningful travel experience that respects the the local people, the local culture and the local environment. More and more fortunately the traveler is choosing the green way these days. Hopefully next time when you go on your travels you will choose the green way of traveling.
