subject: Build Your Business With Integrity [print this page] You know, I was in the magazine section of Borders Books this afternoon when I was approached by a gentleman who asked what I was reading. As I showed him the cover of the Success Magazinein my hands, he nodded in approval and asked what I did for a living. I told him that I worked from home. He mentioned that he did too. He began to tell me all about XYZ company, and his recruiting practices. His technique, if you can call it that, left something to be desired. It ranged from tricking people into giving their contact information by saying that he represented a children's medical charity to stealing his down line teammates nameslist. If I wasn't there actually listening to this, I wouldn't have believed that it happened. I knew that an article was definitely in order on why to build your business with integrity, so here you go.
First and foremost, the network marketing industry is a viable and ethical way for the average person to create above average wealth. There are plenty of great companies out there with fantastic products and services. The problem arises when folks decide to color outside the lines in regard to their company's rules and regulations. This has led to people lumping all home based business opportunities into the sameillegal pyramid scam category.
It is so very important, as network marketing professionals, to up front and honest with the people we are sharing our business presentations with. To make incomepromises, inflating your level of success, or flat out lying to folks about your venture is just plain wrong. Not only do you sour that one person, but you give the entire direct sales genre' a big black eye.
Honesty is the best policy. If you're brand new and haven't made any money, just say so. It's perfectly ok! Let people know up front that there is effort required to succeed, and they won't get to retire by next Thursday. Remember, this is a people helping people business. Developing relationships is the key to success in this industry, and that can't happen if it's all predicated on dishonesty. Tell your prospects the truth, build trust, help them succeed, and you'll have a team that sticks with you for the long haul!
