The year 2011 saw breaking of all records by handling 29,552,264 passengers by the airport.In July 1937, Manila International Air Terminal was opened that used to serve this immediate region. The airport was located close to Nielson Field. Soon after the country gained its independence, the airport was shifted to its present location in the year 1948 adjacent to the Villamor Airbase. Now at this precise location, terminal 2 stands tall. International runway and taxiway were constructed in the year 1954. The construction of control tower and terminal building also started in 1956 which was then used by international passengers. Another terminal was added to the present structure which became the international terminal.
