Brought to you today by Durand Insurance Agencies.

Breast cancer affects a lot of families all over the world, and I wanted to do my part and share some very important information with you today. Feel free to pass this information along to your friends and family.

The third Friday in October is National Mammography Day, first proclaimed by President Clinton in 1993. On this day, and throughout the month, women are encouraged to make a mammography appointment.

Did you know:

Family history is not the most common risk factor for breast cancer. Heredity accounts for only 5-10% of breast cancer cases.

The biggest risk factor for breast cancer is increasing age- 80% occurs in women over 50.

A woman's lifetime risk for developing breast cancer is about one in eight or 12%.

The odds that breast cancer will kill a particular woman are 1 in 35, according to the American Cancer Society.

40,000 women in the U.S. die each year from breast cancer.

The American Cancer Society estimated 192,370 new cases in women in 2009

October is designated as Breast Cancer Awareness Month, but at NBCAM, breast cancer awareness and education is a year round mission. NBCAM offers several ways to learn how to "Pass the Word" this October on their website www.nbcam.org. In addition, the website also contains several sources of more information about the importance of early detection.

Education is Empowerment so we would like to share some resources for you and your loved ones to help you stay informed of latest developments for diagnosis and treatment:
