subject: The Different Psoriasis Treatments [print this page]

Psoriasis, the skin condition that causes red, itchy, swollen, scaly patches to appear on the skin can be a very difficult condition to treat. This is because the condition is known to be incredibly resistant to even the strongest of todays medications, and because some treatment options may work great for some, but have little effect on others. There are a few psoriasis treatments however, that have been proven to work for many.

There are a number of different gels, lotions, and creams, such as Mazon Medicated Psoriasis Cream, that often work very well for psoriasis. These creams work to moisturize the skin, relieve the pain and itch, and reduce the appearance of the patches and sores, or eliminate them completely. Anyone suffering from psoriasis is most likely to try one of these creams first before any other treatment, and they can often be all the psoriasis treatment thats needed.

Aside from those lotions and creams that are often found over-the-counter, those who find they are not working for their psoriasis may have to see a doctor or dermatologist to be prescribed something stronger. Medical professionals are most likely to try another, stronger medicated cream or lotion that is available only by prescription before moving on to other psoriasis treatments.

Light and UVA and UVB rays are known to be an exceptional psoriasis treatment; and doctors even often recommend that psoriasis patients sit out in the sun for a few minutes a day to try and get relief from the symptoms. Because UVA rays, such as those thrown off by the sun, can be even more damaging to the skin even though it may bring psoriasis relief, phototherapy may be a better option.

UVB rays do not penetrate the skin as deeply as UVA rays and so, dont cause the same kind of damage. This kind of phototherapy can be done with a small light in a persons house, and dermatologists also often have tanning beds set up in their offices for those who suffer from psoriasis on all parts of their body.

No matter what kind of psoriasis treatment is being used, its extremely important that those experiencing an outbreak take great care to keep their skin moisturized at all times. Psoriasis can become increasingly worse as it dries out, and can irritate the pain and itching even more.
