Egg Donation A Boon In Fertility Treatment

In vitro fertilization (IVF) is settling down pretty well in infertile couples. Egg donation is one of the treatments under IVF infertility treatments. This is an option when the female is infertile. A woman can provide one or more eggs (usually between 10 and 15) for the assisted reproduction or biomedical research. These are fertilized in the lab first and then replaced in the uterus of the recipient.

What is egg donation?

In this process the eggs are retrieved from the donors body and sperms from the recipients husbands body. The sperms are inserted in the egg and then fertilized in the lab till an early embryo stage with stimulants and then inserted into the recipients womb which is prepared under lab underlining beforehand with injections and other measures. During this process administration of birth control pills is on. The cycles of both the donor and the recipient have to match hence, prior to the egg donation process the analysis and matching of both the cycles is done with ultra sound tests and blood tests. The donor is given follicle-stimulating hormones (FSH) which increase the rate of egg production and mature eggs. This process is done only after taking care of all the medical fundamentals and requirements.
