How To Stop A Dog From Barking

All dogs bark - this is their way to communicate with us and other dogs. Although the barking of one's dog can be noisy, we must understand that this is their way of telling us that they are hungry, there is an unknown person in our territory or it needs to relieve itself. However, if your dog barks constantly just because it wants you to do something for it, like play, then you have to teach your dog respect. Your dog will have to learn to wait, respect you as the owner and stop barking.

To stop a barking dog you can do the following:

* Be aware of your body language and just turn your body away from your dog. Do not pay attention and learn to ignore it. Do not lose your patience and command it to stop. Sooner or later your dog will learn his lesson.

* You can use your hands to hold the mouth/snout of your barking dog. Your other hand can be used to hold the head to keep the dog from escaping from your grasp. When your dog calms down, you can then reward the good behaviour.

The dog must be praised and rewarded when it responds to commands to ensure success in teaching a dog to fetch. A dog loves praises since it likes to please its master and whilst it appreciates pats on its head, giving it delicious food treats is more appealing. Dog treats are effective reinforcement during tricks training.

* Dogs may have pent up energy that causes them to be anxious and show undue barking. With exercise, they may be able to shake this off. With an additional 30 to 45 minutes walk everyday your dog may be able to release all that extra energy. Constant and enjoyable practice of walking is necessary. When the dog gets the whole idea of releasing its energy outdoor, it will be less likely to bark without reason.

To expect your dog to totally stop barking is unrealistic. One should remember that this is the dogs way of talking to us and it is not right to stop it from doing what is normal. Although, like I said, if it is needless barking then just follow the methods above and you will have a healthy relationship with your dog.

To strengthen the bond between the dog and its owner, start with playing games or tricks and be sure it can acknowledge and obey simple commands like sit, stay, come and down as the techniques utilize basic obedience training methods.
