Keeping In Touch With Your Children Even When They Are Gone For The Summer

Summer vacations for many individuals are only a few short months away, and many families already have plans for their children in the works. Some children go away to visit a grandparent or other family member for the summer, others may go with another parent outside of the home, and some children go away to summer camps. But regardless of where your children go for the summer, you are going to want to have a couple of established methods for communicating with them.

No parent wants to be away from their child for an entire summer, or even for a month, but sometimes these experiences are necessary for teaching independence and comfort with being away from home. In other cases children go away for the parents to still be able to work. Whatever your reasons and wherever your children will be, there are three simple ways to stay in touch with them.

1)Personal Cell Phone-A great way to stay in touch with your children over summer vacation is by giving them their own personal cell phones. Often lines can be added to plans for very little cost. The benefits of having your children so close at hand are worth the expense. Your children will never have to feel like you are very far away when they know that they can call you at any time.

One thing you will have to consider when weighing this option is where you children are going for their summer vacation. If they are going to stay with a grandparent, a cell phone should not be problem but if they are going to camp you may want to check their specific policies.

2)Write Letters-It may seem old fashioned, but writing letters is also a great way to stay in touch with your children. Letters may take a few days to reach the recipient but something about simply writing a letter to someone you miss can be very comforting. Also this allows your children to record things as they happen and when they are fresh in their memory so they can relay happenings to you with the most detail.

To make this fun you can even purchase special stationery for your children before they go away for the summer. They will surely enjoy sharing their experiences with you in this special way.

3)Conference Calling-Conference calling is also a great way to stay in touch with your children when they are away, particularly if you have more than one child. Conference calling is being used more and more for everyday life activities because it is such a great way to communicate and inexpensive too. In fact, you can download free conference calling programs online with little computer experience at all.

As with the cell phone, this mode of communication may not be suitable for a summer camp, but it is definitely an option if your children are going to be with a grandparent or other family member. In fact, other family members can join in and catch up with you too when you use conference calling to stay in touch.

Being away from your children for any length of time is difficult, but the right communication will make it that much easier. Cell phones, letters, and conference calls are all great ways to communicate. You just have to choose which is right for you and your children.
