How To Make Bedtime Soothing For Kids?

A comforting bedtime routine from childhood helps in maintaining good sleeping habit. It provides an opportunity for parents to reconnect with children peacefully at the end of the day.

A favorable bedtime environment prompts the child to sleep early and reduces any chances of sleep disruptions and delay. Moreover, the child is able to wake up fresh and re-energized.

Generally, children throw lot of tantrums before sleeping. They come up with inventive reasons for not going to bed. Making bedtime special for kids ensures that they retire peacefully for the day and obtain sound sleep.

Set a standard bedtime and wake time. This aligns your child's internal body clock, or circadian rhythm, on a 24-hour cycle. Since our normal daily rhythms are around 25 hours, it tends to drift out-of-sync. Bedtime routine also soothes down separation anxiety in children at night. Between school, work, and other activities, children may feel that their parents are not able to spend enough time with them. When parents participate in bedtime rituals, kids look forward to it every day.

Tips to create soothing bedtime environment for children before sleeping -

Dim the lights one hour before the bedtime. This practice will signal the body and brain to slow down and it will prepare them to sleep.

Bathing and brushing teeth before the bedtime also greatly helps. Small children can be given massage; it will relax their body completely.

Mild exercises before sleeping helps in making the child sleep. If a child has trouble falling asleep, one might try relaxation or breathing exercises before sleeping.

Parents can have a bonding activity with children before sleeping. They can read a book or sing softly to them.

Limit the background noise. Close windows and doors so that the child cant hear the television or noise in streets or conversation going on in another room.

While talking to kids parents must soften their tone. Be calm and quiet as they prepare children to sleep.

Have a quiet conversation for some time. Talk on happy topics, such as plan a holiday or what he/she wants to become when they grow up.

Last, but not least, lovingly tuck your child in the bed. Children love it. And finally lights out!

Try and make the bedtime experience really relaxing and enjoyable for the child. Make it a special, loving and secure time; that your child cherishes and looks forward to.
