subject: Villas In Alicante For A Holiday Combining Culture, Nature And Family Fun [print this page]

If you look on the east coast of Spain you will find the province of Alicante situated half way between Valencia and Murcia: the perfect place to rent your VILLAS IN ALICANTE. To give you an idea of its size, it is the second largest city in the Comunidad Valenciana. Alicante revelled in its past for a long time but with the advent of modern tourism it moved into the 20th century with great gusto. This once poor neglected port is now a modern and cosmopolitan city a major tourist destination. People from all over the world as well as Europe bless this area with their presence to enjoy the sun, sea and sand on some of the best beaches in Spain. With the new airport Alicante is ready to handle the millions of tourist who travel here each year. The Alicante international airport is so busy: today it is referred to as the gateway to the Costa Blanca.

Alicante is an interesting place for sightseeing especially if you do your tour on foot. This way you can get up close and personal with the cathedrals, churches and museums scattered throughout Alicante. The major attraction in this city is the fortified castle known as Castillo de Santa Barbara. When you sit on the ramparts of this medieval castle the views are breathtaking, especially the harbour where once anchored ships ready to disgorge men of the line who attacked the castle.

If you brought your children with you take them to the Terra Natura, Terra Mitica and Mundomar for the time of their little life plus you will get excited yourself. All this is found in Benidorm a short drive of 45 kilometres to the northeast of Alicante, in old money its only 25 miles. As you approach Benidorm the surrounding high mountains are very effective at protecting the city from strong cold winds which gives Benidorm a mild climate all year long.

While on a day out from your VILLAS IN ALICANTE take note of the mountains forming an area of outstanding natural beauty including Guadalest, a picturesque village perched atop a ridge in the Sierra de Aitana Mountains. Just down the road some 25 kilometres is the Cuevas del Canelobre. It is better if you hire one of the local guides to take you through the cave and explain all that there is about this underground palace.
