How Not To Buy The Wrong Digital Camera?

Shopping for anything technological requires one to understand what different technical terms stand for. Without proper grounding in jargon, shopping for technological goods such as digital cameras can be like shooting darts in the dark. You may pick any random camera just because the features sounded great while in reality the results may not be as great. And unfortunately this happens more times than not since awareness about digital cameras and their function is pretty low.

So whats the way out?

Minimize the Awareness Gap

Well firstly, the idea should be to minimize the awareness gap between you and the salesman. If you come across a salesman who talks more in jargon, request him to break it down in simpler comprehensible ideas and inquire about what each feature does towards getting a good photograph. If he fails to explain that you would do good to move to another shop all together.

Understand the Features

If you are shopping online, you can start off by reading a little about each feature and understanding how they impact the overall picture quality. Knowing what ISO, fill in flash light, aperture mode, different shutter speeds, zoom and auto focus do will tell you what to look for in digital cameras. They are pretty much the fundamental functions of good digital cameras and if more than one or two are absent, avoid buying that camera and move on to other options.

Megapixels Alone Are Incomplete Story

Thirdly do not be bought in by the glamour of more mega pixels on your camera. What may surprise you is the fact that anything above 2 mp is good for your laptop and computer screens, in fact for that matter even your HD TVs. This clearly nullifies the rush for buying cameras with more megapixels. In fact researches have shown that lesser mega pixels on a larger sensor can produce much better pictures than a lot of megapixels on smaller sensors. In simple words, just megapixels dont do magic on their own. In case of choosing between digital cameras of the same size, move onto compare them on other factors. What would matter more than megapixels would be their other features and color fidelity.

Overall, do not rush into buying a digital camera or you would end up buying a box with not much power in it. Take your time and research well to identify the camera that packs all the features you need and doesnt cost a bomb either.
