Unhappy With Your Teeth? Try A Cosmetic Dental Procedure.

Millions of Americans are unhappy with their teeth. Whether they are misaligned or discolored, having a bad smile can damage your self-confidence and affect your life. If you are one of these people, you should consider talking to your dentist about cosmetic dentistry. Over the years, modern dental techniques have become more and more advanced. Today, there are a variety of cosmetic dental procedures that can successfully improve the appearance of your teeth. If you are unhappy with your teeth, don't hesitate to talk to your dentist about a cosmetic procedure.

Dental Veneers

One of the most popular methods for improving the appearance of patients' teeth is the installation of dental veneers. Veneers are thin, custom-fitted shells of tooth colored material that are attached directly to the front of your teeth to improve their appearance. To install a set of veneers, your dentist will need to begin by removing about millimeter of enamel from the front of your teeth. This will ensure that there is enough room for your veneers to comfortably fit in your mouth. After taking impressions to create the veneer, a dental lab will create your permanent veneers. Once they arrive, your dentist will do a final check for fit and coloring. If everything is correct, he or she will cement the veneers permanently to your teeth and the procedure will be completed.

Teeth Whitening

Another extremely popular cosmetic procedure is teeth whitening. The quickest and most effective method for doing so is to have your dentist perform the procedure in his or her office. Using a combination of whitening gel and a special laser or light, your dentist will be able to significantly whiten your teeth in less than two hours. If you don't want to spend the money on an in-office procedure, your dentist will be able to provide you with a customized take home whitening kit. He or she will take impressions of your teeth in order to create whitening trays that will fit perfectly to your teeth. When you are at home, you will apply whitening gel to the trays and wear them for about an hour. After repeating this every day for about two weeks, your teeth will have become much whiter.

Dental Crowns

If you have a single tooth that is discolored, chipped, cracked or otherwise unsightly, your dentist can repair the tooth with a dental crown. A crown is a tooth shaped cap that is installed directly on top of a tooth to improve its strength, size, shape and/or appearance. To put a crown in, your dentist will have to file down the tooth in order for their to be enough room for the crown to fit in your mouth. After taking an impression, the crown is created in a dental lab. Your dentist will then cement the crown in place. After this, a crown will both function and look like a normal tooth in your mouth.
