The Tricks Behind Bulldog Training

Bulldogs are the ideal pets to many people. Most people admire the dog's prowess and fierce look. Though it is not a very good guard dog it can protect the owner in case of danger. Bulldog training is not an easy task due to the stubborn nature of the dog.

Bulldogs are tenacious and may at times be unwilling to do some things. This makes it hard to order the dog around. Knowledge of this characteristic is important to an owner. The trainer should be prepared and ready to cope with the dog. The process of training a bulldog may be hard but the end justifies the whole process.

A bulldog can be trained to perform different things. The pet can be taught to do basic commands such as to sit, lie and to stay. These are some of the most popular commands most owners train the dog. With effective training, a bulldog will be able to easily follow commands.

Just like training any other dog using motivators on a bulldog works. A motivator can be a treat that the dog can be given when it does something good. Rewarding the dog will strengthen its obedience and this will make the bulldog to readily obey the owner each time a command is given.

A method such as the use of a clicker is effective. The clicker is used to serve the same intention as a motivator but this time the pet will relate the sound of the clicker with being rewarded. It helps in teaching the dog to follow directions and in understanding, especially when something new is being taught.

The use of both gestures and words is important in training. By using both on a particular command, the dog will be able to learn at a faster rate. The trick in this case is to be consistent. You should not mix up or change the words and signals because it will confuse the dog and this will make the training process slower.

At a certain age bulldogs may temporarily forget their training. At this time the dog owner should still be consistent because after sometime they will start obeying the commands again. The bulldog is intelligent and sensitive. It remembers what it has been taught and masters commands effectively but a person should be patient during training. Consistency and persistence is effective in training the dogs. Bulldog training should be done on a daily basis but the sessions should be short, usually less than 45 minutes.
