subject: Baby Essentials May Be Daunting [print this page]

You may have already been daunted by the prospect of kitting out your home for a baby, this may not be your first or you may be so elated with the good news you have not considered the extent of what you will need to buy. As soon as the news sinks in and you begin browsing the internet for lists on what you will definitely need as well as the other thousands of recommended stand by products you will soon realise the scale of a babies requirements. There are items which are much more essential than just a recommendation, most of which are common sense but some do have specific features to look out for.

Pushchairs

Choosing a pushchair will depend on various factors. Where will you store it when not in use and how big is your car boot for it to fit into for travelling. You have then got the more relaxed features such as design and colour etc. There are many prams on the market nowadays which are designed to set your child aside with funky designs and colourful frames. More importantly you do need to focus on the functionality of the pram and how easily it can be put up and down as well as the size it folds down into.

Car seats

You will need a car seat for the minute your new arrival is leaving the hospital. When looking for a car seat your priority will be safety and comfort. Car Seats are usually going to come with Iso Fix brackets to secure them into your car, which will usually have compatible brackets. If they do not then that is not a worry and car seats will come with displays on how secure the seat will be, plus you have safety in the knowledge of knowing that these products cannot be launched to market without passing a high level of tests. The length of time a car seat is functional for can vary between different products and some are suitable for use up until around 1 year old and some are beyond.

High Chairs

From about 4 months onwards you will have the opportunity to expand your childs palette. From then on meal times can be extremely messy with the basic rusks, rice and eventually jars and then more solid foods getting caught up on your childs face, hands and generally making an enormous mess in comparison to the usual milk. High chairs now come in such a range of different designs and styles you are even likely to find one that will match your home decor. You are looking for a high chair that is easy to store in a space you already have and which has plenty of support for your child who is likely to still be quite unsteady with adjustable straps.
