Whether you are planning on buying a phone outright or you will be having a contract set up with it, you will always need to set a budget first. This can help to put a cap on your searches, so you wont be looking at phones that you cant afford anyway. In essence, a budget will help to take the temptation of overspending away.

Smartphones are now the in thing, but if you dont want a smartphone you will still be able to choose from all kinds of phones. However, you will need to decide on whether having a smartphone is a must-have criteria for you before you go out and select a phone that you wont want to use three months down the line.

3)Select your OS

OS stands for Operating System and there are now quite a few of them for you to choose from, including Apples iOS, Android, Symbian, Windows, BlackBerry and many others. If you have never used any of these OS before you should do some research into what they are like, as many people find that they prefer a certain one.

4)Touchscreen or keypad?

This can be a big decision to make as it will determine how easy you find it to actually use your phone. People usually like one or the other, so try out some phones in the shop or ask to practice on your friends phones to help in making your decision.
