Secret Of A Job-winning Resume

Whats the special magic or secret of a job-winning resume? Why will it help you generate interviews in todays tough times? In a nutshell, a job-winning resume is a smart resume. Its smart because it gives employers/recruiters/HR managers what they want to see and what they seek in less than 20 seconds. A smart resume sells you and your value to the potential employer.

Hiring process is non-stop. It continues during recession, Depression and every economic downturn. There are also a lot of different opportunities being offered in new industries and new types of business. If you want to create a winning resume, first of all you should know what employers look for and what qualities they want to see in a candidate. Usually job advertisements can provide you with many clues and answers.

A great resume should include a selling factor together with the facts. Do you know how to sell yourself on a resume? Or you rely too much on your cover letter? Perhaps you hope an online resume builder or a ready-made template will do this for you? Unfortunately, they cant. In 2012 you just have to sit down, take your time, develop and analyze your own selling points, or you can always delegate it to an expert writer. If youre not getting any calls for interviews, dont rush to blame todays job market. The problem is definitely in your resume and the awful truth is 9 times out of 10 the resume you keep sending out is not working for you, it doesnt sell your skills and accomplishments. In fact, any resume without that special selling factor is just a killer.

What do employers want to see in candidates in 2012? Can you meet any of their needs? The best way to show your selling points is to write brief but effective 5-10 statements in the Summary of Qualifications. Try to write them in the language employers use in their job advertisements. In order to draw attention use black bullets intelligently as bullets should also be smart. Make sure important keywords are underlined and bolded. These small but very important steps will turn your current document into a great resume.
Secret Of A Job-winning Resume

Resume writing is all about making important decisions, such as including and omitting, emphasizing and downplaying. Perhaps leaving out and de-emphasizing are even more important. Whats the main difference between a general resume and a job-winning resume? A winning resume is clear, targeted and to the point. It is focused from A to Z: from the Objective to the last line. It contains a clear answer to what employers look for. Meanwhile, an ordinary resume is too vague and it lacks focus and target. Remember, employers are usually busy people and they dont want to spend their precious time trying to figure out what youre good at. Its your job to tell them up front and demonstrate all your strengths.

Thats why in 90-95 cases out of 100 a self-written resume wont be a job-winning resume in 2012. It simply wont be able to compete with professionally written documents that clearly communicate and sell you in seconds. Keep in mind, there is no second chance to make a favorable first impression.
