Why You Should Pay Attention To Colour

Home is the one place where you cant compromise it needs to be perfect. Your home is perceived in the way you decorate it; your decoration acts as a reflection of your own character as well your homes character. How do you ensure that your interior design doesnt blow up in your face? Thats rather simple: you focus on how the colours work together. Throughout your home, you need to make sure that you pick colours that dont clash with each other. While youre decorating, remember that colours can help you to define your space. If your home is large, you could reduce the distant feel by using dark colours to make your home seem comfortable. If the ceiling is high, for example, then painting a dark colour like brick-red, or a rich dark purple might help to make it seem lower than it is. On the other hand if your home seems rather cramped, then use light colours. Light reflects off of such colours and make the room seem brighter and more spacious.

You can also scatter mirrors strategically throughout rooms and your house, if necessary, to make the entire place seem bigger. Again, light plays off the mirrors, making the rooms seem bigger than they are. While choosing a colour, look at how it seems in different kinds of light. For example a single colour seems different in yellow light (emitted by light bulbs) than it does in natural sunlight. Paint a small portion of your room and look at it during different times of the day to determine whether you like the way it looks. This also helps you determine which colours might suit differently lit up rooms. The thing to remember here is that colour and home decor are intricately bound together. If you dont use colour the right way, then your home is going to look like a disaster area.

You can decide on an over-all theme that you want your home to have. Or decide to go through your home room by room and give each a different feel. The choice is yours. But whichever you pick, just make sure you dont go overboard. And it is very easy to overdo it. Pick colours for your room from your current accessories, which is likely to save you a great deal of time and money as you worry about getting everything to go together. Remember to take inspiration from what you already have and pick the ones that you like best. After all, youre the one thats going to have to live with the choices!
