Incontinence In Women Do You Know Its Different Types

When a woman is not in a position to control the flow of her urine, she might be having urinary incontinence (UI). While many women are facing the condition of sudden loss of urine, it might be as minor as a rare dribble for some, while it might be a great problem of the wetting of the whole clothes for some of them. Professional medical providers say that this condition can be divided into four types being stress, urge, mixed and overflow UI. Some of the details regarding these four types are given in the following content:

Stress Urinary incontinence in women: This is shortly called as SUI and under this type leakage of a minimal quantity of urine happens, when a woman sneezes or coughs or when she does any other activity that pressurizes her bladder. Normally, childbirth and pregnancy are considered to be the reason for this type since these instances can cause stress and damage to the pelvic muscles. In addition to these reasons, engaging in heavy sporting activities, aging and overweight can also cause this state in some ladies.

Urge Incontinence in women: This type is otherwise called as overactive bladder and under this type, the patient will suddenly feel like urinating and there will be involuntary leakage of urine before she actually reaches the restroom. This type is caused due of spasms on the muscles of the bladder and other diseases like urinary tract infection, Parkinsons disease and multiple sclerosis is also known to cause this type of UI in women.

Mixed incontinence: This is a type, where women face both stress and urge types, which mean that sometimes there will be leakage of urine due to doing heavy activities, while on some occasions, they will be forced to immediately reach the restroom, but there will be leakage of urine before they actually reach the restroom.

Overflow UI: Under this type, the patient cannot completely empty her bladder when reaching the restroom, rather there will be frequent dripping of urine. This condition is known to be caused because of medicines taken for some diseases and women with nerve damage due to diabetes are known to experience this condition.

Women facing any of the aforesaid conditions need not worry as there are medications and exercises to set right this condition and particularly SUI can be cured with medications. If medications are not working out, there are surgical alternatives for women facing any type mentioned earlier.
