Setting Up An Online Store? Get Your Delivery Process Sorted First

Online shopping has dramatically increased in popularity over the past few years. In the run up to Christmas more and more people are choosing to purchase gifts from the warmth and comfort of their own home rather than venture out into the cold and hectic high street. What's more shopping online allows you to search for exactly what you need and it is easy to make quick comparisons. Since online stores do not have the same expense for overheads then you can often find what you are looking for at a very competitive price, especially when using hosted online stores like Amazon and eBay.

Online shopping is here to stay and if you are thinking of setting up an online store to sell products one of the most important things you should consider is how you intend to deliver the products to the customer. Those selling digital services will naturally need some kind of web-based delivery process but anyone selling a physical product should think carefully about the delivery process prior to taking any sales. This is important because one of the most common customer feedback complaints from online shopping is as a result of delivery issues. If you are using a site like Amazon or eBay where customers can leave honest feedback for everyone to see, then this becomes even more important.

If you have never delivered goods through a courier service before then you should make sure that you conduct a thorough online search of the different courier services available and which will work best for you. For example, if you are selling goods via Amazon then look for a courier that specialises in meeting Amazon delivery requirements. If you are sending large or palletised items then you will need a courier that offers a freight rate.

Once you have selected a courier you should set up a thorough process for how you intend to complete each delivery. Some of this process will depend on the way your chosen courier operates collections and deliveries. Generally the process will involve booking a collection, packaging the parcel, applying labels with the consignment numbers, keeping a record of consignment numbers and delivery notes so you can track and trace the delivery and, downloading and recording a POD to prove that the delivery took place.

There are a couple of other useful points to consider like attaching a delivery note to the parcels so the recipient knows what they should have received and if anything is missing. Also labeling every box within a delivery and sender address so that if it becomes separated from the consignment it will not go missing.
