Only Floorscreeding Gets The Job Done Right

In order to achieve the perfect finish to any floor it is important to use a product that is both time and cost efficient. One of the very best solutions to home owners and builders alike is floorscreeding which can transform a floor from a patch work mess to a smooth level surface in a matter of hours. It is however, important to note the many different floor screeding solutions that are available as the different types of screeds have their own unique properties which makes them more suitable for certain applications. This article will look at exactly what the main types of screeds are, what their properties are and where you should use them.

Traditional Screed Mix

The traditional screed mix is one of the most popular solutions due to its wide range of applications, simple mixture and quick drying times. The mixture is made from sand, cement and water although its water content is very low which makes this a very dry screed. This ensures that it is usable for foot traffic after just 48 hours which is ideal for keeping building sites on the go and minimising down time.

Liquid Screed

If you have a very large area that needs screeding then the best choice is liquid screed due to its rapid application rate of up to 1000m2 a day. This very high rate of screeding is achieved because self levelling screeds such as this do not need to be manually shaped and smoothed. Instead they simply flow into the corner of the floor surface that must be levelled or covered and self compact. Even though it is a liquid screed, setting agents allow for rapid drying which normally allows for light foot traffic after 48 hours.

Fibre Reinforced Screed

If you need a very strong sand and cement screed then it is possible to include polypropylene fibres which help increase longevity and toughness. The fibres are contained within the mix itself and their addition does not increase the time it takes screeders to complete the job. The overall effect of adding these fibres into the mix is a screed that will last longer, be less inclined to shrink or crack and have reduced permeability.

Whatever your flooring needs, you can be certain that there is a screed type which is ideal for situation. It is the only way to get a reliable, low cost finish to any type of uneven or unfinished floor.
