Cancer which originate in liver is called liver cancer. A liver is the biggest organ of the body situated below the right lung and under the ribcage. A tumor start growing on the surface or inside the liver. It is also known as hepatic cancer which starts growing in the liver and not from any other organ which later migrates to liver.

There occurs generally 3 types of liver cancer

1. Hemangiomas

2. Hepatic Adenomas

3. Focal Nodular Hyperplasia

Liver cancer is caused by Hepatitis C, chronic hepatitis B, I-Incarnadine.

Treatment

As the symptoms arrives very late so the treatment becomes very difficult at times.

So the cancer treatment is categorized into 2 types-

Treating curable cancer

1. Surgery

When the tumor is very small in the very early stage it can be removed by surgical resection.

2. Liver Transplant

Candidates going through liver transplant should not have tumor larger than 2 inches(5 cm)

Treating non-curable cancer

1. Chemotherapy

Cancer cells are killed by injecting medication into liver.

2. Radiation Therapy(Radio therapy)

tumor is directed by radiation to kill a number of them. Vomiting, nausea and fatigue can be felt after that.

3. Ablative Therapy

Tumor are directly injected by the substances like alcohol, radio waves and lasers.

The treatment for liver cancer varies depending on the type.

Prevention

Prevention is better than cure. Yes this famous proverb is apt here also. There are various preventive measures suggested in order to prevent yourself from liver cancer.

Alcohol

The regular intake of alcohol increases the risk of cirrhosis of liver which develops the chances of occurring cancer. So giving up alcohol completely can reduce the risk of cancer.

Hepatitis C

Till now there is no hepatitis C vaccination introduced. So there is no sure way of protecting yourself completely from the same. Although the risk can be reduced by using condom during sex.

Hepatitis B

People should definitely take the vaccine of hepatitis B especially individuals who take drugs, engage in sexual activities without protection, share needles and of course who are involved in the profession who raises the risk like doctors, nurse, dentists. People traveling different parts of the world should also go through vaccination.
