Patiala bus station is about two and half kilometers from city center. Auto-rickshaws are available outside the station to any part of Patiala city. Alternately you can also travel to Patiala from Delhi by taxi. Road journey will be via Sonipat, Samalkha, Karnal and Thanesar. Travel by road takes about four hours. Petrol pumps, dhabas and food stalls can be seen in the route. Journey by taxi is expensive but comfortable.

The train journey to Patiala from Delhi via Narela, Sonipat, Samalkha, Panipat Jn, Kurukshetra, Ambala cantt Jn, Ambala city and Rajpura Jn takes about six hours. Hygienic north Indian cuisine is served in food stalls at these stations. Trains to Patiala depart from Delhi (DLI), H Nizamuddin and New Delhi (NDLS) junctions in Delhi and arrive at Patiala junction. Auto-rickshaws, taxis and buses are available at Patiala railway to reach the desired destination in the city.

There is no airport in Patiala. Hence, there is no direct flight service between the two places. However, you can travel from Delhi to Patiala by air via Chandigarh as it is the nearest airport to Patiala. Fly to Chandigarh from Delhi and from there take a bus or hire a taxi to Patiala. Airlines such as Air India, IndiGo and SpiceJet operate flights from Delhi to Chandigarh. Chandigarh airport is located at a distance of 61 km from Patiala. Taxis are available at airport to Patiala. The changeover at the Chandigarh airport could be hectic with seniors and kids.
