Railway budget 2011: A lot of expectations from Mamata

WITH HARDLY a few days left for Union Railway minister Mamata Banerjee to unveil the Railway Budget 2011, all hopes are pinned on the benefits and the sooting prospects the railway budget 2011 will bring along with it.

Although the common man got a breather with no ticket price hike in this railway budget 2011, the railway budget 2011 is expected to focus on passenger amenities, freight issues, reduced delays in investment and infrastructure work, and to think how gross profit exceeds gross expenses.

Keeping in view the railways' outstanding debts, expense controlling seems to be the highlights of the upcoming railway budget 2011. Some areas emphasised include housing facilities, utilizing earnings, and increase in number of trains. The revenues and expenditures incurred during the last financial year are as follows:

> Gross earnings during the ongoing financial year is pegged at Rs. 88,281 crores.

> Gross working expenditures incurred during the financial year amounted to Rs. 87,100 crores.

IN order to curb the growing expenses, the railways is expected to set up its own industrial hub in order to manufacture and market the different components for its rail operations. A railway official said that ancillary units will be set up at the Rail Industrial Park which would cater to the needs of railways.

Additions like green toilet manufacturing units in Nagpur and expansion of Diesel Loco Works at Varanasi are also expected to find a place for itself in the railway budget 2011, which will be announced on February 25.Hope your expectations from this Railway Budget Come true!
