Treating Injuries - when Arnica fails to Works its Magic

Treating injuries with Arnica is, without a doubt, the most efficient and effective way to resolve them. Arnica is the most commonly used homeopathic medicine for any injury. Its always best to start off with Arnica. It may completely resolve a multitude of injuries. Or it may start things going, but not complete them.

Not long ago I had a very good reason for being grateful for one of the next most common and most effective medicines for injuries.

Kelpies are great sheep dogs, but even untrained, they seem to have a thing about rounding up sheep. Or any other animal, if sheep arent available. My Kelpies love to try and round up the horses, but the horses have got used to it and now totally ignore the dogs.

That however, doesnt deter the dogs, who substitute rounding up the horses for leaping up and biting their tails. Initially, the horses kicked out and often hit a dog. Youd think that would stop them, but it did nothing to dissuade them!

But now, the horses ignore the tail biting, too.

Consequently, their tails are ragged, short and very ineffective fly swats. In the springtime, the flies are really bad, and the horses need their tails to be effective.

When it was only one dog, it wasnt too serious. But with the arrival of the second dog Toby, the first one was determined to teach him all her bad habits, including the tail biting.

So I decided to try and stop the dogs from tail biting.

But my plan wasnt very well thought out.

Or executed. Sigh...

I took Toby, up to the rear end of my normally placid mare. The idea being that he would jump up at her tail and I would command him to stop.

Of course, Toby wasnt in the mood to jump up.

And I couldnt get him to do it on command.

Why did I think I could?

The mare was unimpressed with all the activity at her rear end, and she kicked out.

Toby was much too smart, knowing how careful he has to be in these circumstances.

I took the impact on my lower arm, which threw me back onto the ground.

Stunned for a few moments, I sat there contemplating my idiotic ideas, watching my arm swell before my eyes.

Eventually I got up and went to my treasured bottle of Arnica.

Arnica is the main remedy for all injuries, but particularly soft tissue damage. And, of course, every injury has some soft tissue damage, so Arnica should always be the first remedy to use in any injury. It will often sort things out completely. However, sometimes a second or even third remedy is needed to complete the cure, as in this case.

Getting to the right remedy/ies immediately after the event will ensure nothing develops and everything is cleared up speedily. However, Im sometimes a bit slow with my own treatment, thinking it will go away eventually.

I stayed with the Arnica for a couple of days, as it had relieved the pain and there was no bruising, but I could see that the swelling was gradually creeping up my arm. And I had limited use of the arm - I couldnt carry heavy objects or use a twisting motion of my hand.

That should have alerted me, that it wasnt the right remedy.

One of the next most commonly prescribed homeopathic medicines for injuries after Arnica is Bellis perennis.

Bellis perennis is in the same family of plant (the compositeae family) as is Arnica. Bellis is more suited to the deeper effects of trauma and injury, such as deep abdominal surgery. But it also deals with swellings and lumps from injuries, which Arnica may not be able to deal with.

As soon as I started on the Bellis, I could see the swelling going down. Within a couple of days, my arm was back to normal.

No soreness or pain.

No swelling.

I was able to carry and twist again as normal.

What I should have done is to abandon the Arnica after a couple of hours and move on to the Bellis, as the symptoms werent clearing up quickly.

But the time delay is of no consequence. Even if the injury is years old, the remedy will still work, providing the symptoms fit the picture of the remedy.
