The University has a section of Asian studies, and concentrating on the studies, the group has organized a yearlong series of cultural experiences representing six Asian countries. The main motive is teaching students and the community alike about cultures around the world.
Dubbed Tour of Asia, including cultural Tour, is focusing on China in February, with the presentation and hands-on demo "Philosophy, Culture, and Calligraphy".
The Basic idea behind the tour to India and other parts of Asia is to develop a series to introduce people to cultures around the world and also reach out to the local community. According to the head of the department, the best way to explore the culture is to visit any particular country in Asia in the month of cultural festival and celebration.
The cultural tour will begin with Chinese opera workshop and performance by world-renowned opera group Taiwan Bangzi Opera that has also performed in New York City and London. Their main performance is sponsored by University of Scranton, which is also an adaptation of Shakespeare's "The Merchant of Venice" in Washington. The event will be unfolding meaning of "bond" protection and restriction and the issues of race, justice, law, love, gender, and friendship.
In this Tour of Asia, visit to India will be in March, which focuses on Indian culture with two presentations. The head department hopes that community members will get an idea about the history and evolution of different societies through the tour. Moreover, it also includes sampling of different Asian cuisines, i.e. Indian cuisines in March and Philippine cuisine in April.
To attract travelers various competitions are also organized during the tour.
