Know All About Donor Egg Pregnancy

There are so many disturbed couples who are unable to conceive naturally owing to fertility issues ranging on a wide scale. Thankfully, in-vitro-fertilization has come to the rescue of such couples where an egg from the female and sperm from the male are laboratory combined and placed in a favorable environment for fertilization. As the embryo develops, it is implanted into the uterus which then follows a common pregnancy procedure. This is hence called a donor egg pregnancy which just initiates differently but follows a normal procedure later. Such a procedure can be divided into 5 simple steps.

Stage 1 includes prescription of special medicines to the IVF egg donor so as to control the ripening time of the egg. It also improves the female fertility so that the chances of collecting multiple eggs increase. This is because some eggs fail to fertilize following their retrieval. Stage 2 involves ultrasound imaging during a minor surgical procedure in order to retrieve eggs. For this, a hollow needle in inserted through the cavity of pelvis to remove eggs. Stage 3 of donor egg pregnancy is insemination which is a process involving incubation of the sperm and egg to initiate fertilization. The eggs are carefully monitored and they are called embryos after cell division and fertilization has occurred.

This is followed by Stage 4 which is done a few days after egg retrieval. By that time, the embryos are transferred into the uterus with the help of speculum to expose the cervix. In this process, the embryos are suspended in the fluid and passed into the womb through a catheter. Note, a general notion that exists is that transfer of four embryos brings better results but as a matter of fact, if four embryos are transferred, there is a greater possibility of all of them to be implanted. In Stage 5 of donor egg pregnancy, the IVF egg donor is encouraged to take good rest and search for the earliest symptoms of pregnancy. Very normally, pregnancy is determined through blood tests and ultrasound.

Cost Of IVF Procedures

The cost of In Vitro Fertilization varies based on the unique characteristics of the IVF egg donor, particularly the severity of fertility issues she is experiencing. Taking for instance the United States, the approximate live birth rates from donor egg pregnancy are 30-35% for women aged below 35 years, 25% for women aged between 35-37 and 15-20% for women aged between 38-40 years. Couple with genetic issues and specific problems with their sperm or eggs, the donor eggs & sperms or embryos can be implanted. The cost of in vitro fertilization is also funded by health insurance policies, making it easier for couple to afford it.

Of course, like any external procedure, the donor egg pregnancy is also associated with certain risks such as hyper stimulation, painful ovaries, risk of bleeding, injection & injury in bowel and bladder, etc. But with expert's suggestion and advices, risks can be minimized to lead to a successful pregnancy!
