Californication, amid controversy over its name is going stronger as its 4th season is underway and a 5th season is proposed to be filmed. For those who do not know anything about it (and there will always be some ignorant' people) Californication is an American TV Drama Series that was aired on Showtime in 2007. It has completed 3 seasons and fourth season is being aired from January 9, 2011. You can watch Californication online too. I will tell you later, first we shall discuss its story so that a novice can keep up with the story in the fourth season, hopefully.
The Story: It is a story of a Novelist Hank Moody (played by David Duchovny) whose life is in constant romantic and sexual turmoil. He has a troubled relation with his girlfriend Karen (Natascha McElhone). He has a teenaged daughter Becca (Madeleine Martin). The other main characters in Californication are Charlie Runkle, Marcy Runkle and Mia Cross. It has been nominated for several awards and it won an Emmy and Golden Globe Award as well.
The Hunk: The protagonist of Series is Hank Moody that is portrayed by David Duchovny of the X-files. Our protagonist is confronted with several problems. He is a novelist with a problem of Writers Block which he claims to be due to his past. He has several romantic' relationships with other women and he cannot help doing it. That is why he has a strained relations with his girlfriend Karen with whom he has a daughter. He also uses drugs.
Though he wants to be a good and responsible Father to his daughter but he ends up straining the relation further by being involved in extra-marital affairs. He proposed Karen but she refused on ground of his behavior which he is unable to change. Let us see what happens in the fourth season. Will he manage to regain his old time love Karen or will he find entrapped in some other relations?
Karen is Hank's girlfriend. She is usually portrayed as a woman who at one hand loves Hank moody but on the other hand she is reluctant to marry him for his almost uncontrollable behavior towards women. Natascha McElhone is doing justice to the role and it could be said with ease "so far so good."
Other Characters: Becca's role is portrayed by Madeleine Martin. She is troubled relations with his father Hank. She appeared in several episodes of Californication. Now she is shown as a member of a music band. Then there is Charlie Rankle, Moody's best friend. Mia is a teenage girl who had slept with Moody and stole his manuscript of novel and gets it printed by her name. All these and several other characters make the Californication a perfect blend of Romantic and exciting story that compels viewers to find out what is going to happen next.
Controversies: Californication has been target of many controversies. First there were some law suits over its name. A band The Red Hot Chili Peppers accused that it has infringed its copy rights. They have a music album with the same name. Similarly, conservative Christian groups also accused the series of over some scenes that they found disturbing. Overall, it has got good viewership and is increasing with each season.
