For How Long Are Most People On The Medifast Diet?

I recently had someone ask me, in part: "For how long does a person typically stay on the medifast diet? How long does the food that they provide you with last?" People will often ask these types of questions when they have an important upcoming event that they are anticipating. They are often trying to loose a specific amount of weight over a specific amount of time. In the following article, I'll try to explain a typical timeline on this diet.

For Most People, The Medifast Diet Lasts Long Enough For You To Meet Your Weight Loss Goals: First of all, there is no commitment required on this diet. You don't have to sign a contract or anything like that. You basically just make your food purchases for as long as you feel that you still have some weight that you want to lose.

I've known people who have only had ten pounds or so to lose and one monthly package was all that was needed to reach this goal. Other folks who have more weight to lose may be on the diet for a bit longer. Of course, the company suggests that you consult your doctor before you make these decisions. But, generally speaking, the estimates that you often see are around a 2 5 pounds weight loss per week as being somewhat typical. And it's my observation that people who are on the high end of this range tend to be diligent about their "lean and green meal" and are willing to add in some type of movement to burn more calories more quickly. Using these numbers, most people are able to come up with an estimate of how long they can expect to be on the diet.

Medifast Offers Many Different Packages Depending On Your Goals And The Products Stay Fresh For A Pretty Long Time: Most people who have more than 10 or so pounds to lose will find that it's most cost effective to chose one of the monthly packages. They do sell the meals individually and they also offer a two week package, but most people decide it's cheaper to go with the package that offers 28 days worth of food. (This package coupled with coupons usually will bring the cost per meal down quite a bit.)

Once you reach your weight loss goals, medifast has a maintenance program where you begin to gradually move toward a regular diet once again. This helps you to ease into the process to give you the greatest chance of keeping the weight off once and for all.

Sometimes when people ask how long the diet lasts, they are asking about the shelf life of the foods. The company's guidelines state that the powdered foods have a "best if used by" date of about 18 months. The shakes and bars' "best if used by date" is 12 months. However, the company states that the foods typically don't go bad or become spoiled on these dates. It just means that the vitamins and minerals might have lost some of their potency. But, most people don't leave their foods sitting around for that long. Most people feel it's best to go ahead and consume the products in the month after they receive them to ensure that they are as fresh as possible.
