If there is one thing that can be said about developing a healthy eating plan it's that it isn-t easy- if you are ready to kickstart diet results, the truth is that certain aspects of your lifestyle have to change. To see lasting results it is as simple as that.

Some of us need to change more than one thing to reveal the absolute best body possible, while others just need a little "spring cleaning" in the pantry or fridge. Simply adding a powder, a pill, or an extra workout will not create the long-term goals that you are hoping to accomplish. So what is one thing in your life that you can remove today and see super fast results in a mere matter of days?

Why It's Time to Skip Happy Hour

Alcohol is not only bad for your overall health; it is one of the worst things you can ingest if you are trying to lose weight. I know, I know, you read in magazines that red wine has antioxidants that can support a health heart, right? The truth is that alcohol is considered a toxin to your system, period.

Red wine, white wine, beer and liquor--all of these are carbohydrates. And even though alcohol is considered a carbohydrate by your body, it has no nutritional value and is processed by the body completely differently than other carbs.

If you are Eating Healthy to Lose Weight and Haven't Seen Results this May Be Why

When the body senses that alcohol has entered the bloodstream it's first line of duty is to detoxify the body by shuttling the substance immediately to the liver. This means that any other calories that you have consumed in addition to the alcohol will have to simply wait in the queue before being digested.

What happens more often than not is that the body is so preoccupied with trying to rid your system of those toxins that the body assumes you have ingested too many calories and begins storing them away as fat.

Aside from the detrimental effects that alcohol has on the inner processes of your body, its effects also cause you to eat more than you normally would and in turn can also make you lackadaisical about those choices. You are much more likely to imbibe and order the nachos, than you when you drink unsweetened tea. If you struggle with self-control in general, more than one glass of wine with any meal may cause you to overeat.

Why this "Non-calorie" Calorie isn't a Part of the Diet Solution

What does it mean to call alcohol the non-calorie calorie? Well, it isn't because alcohol is low in calories. In fact, alcohol has more calories per gram than any other food source. At 7 calories per gram, alcohol is the highest calorie drink there is for absolutely no positive nutritional value. So not only are you putting a form of poison into your body, the calorie content of alcohol is extremely high.

The question to ask is this: why do I need to include such a hazardous substance in my diet, if I truly want to lose weight and feel great? Too many drinks can leave you dangerously dehydrated, which can affect your energy levels and your ability to think clearly.

It can (and will) usurp the motivation right out of your body to get your workout in or choose the healthiest item on the menu. All in all, unless there is a special occasion, or you just have the occasional drink with dinner, there is nothing positive about having alcohol as a steady part of your diet plan.

If you tend to have several drinks a week, I challenge you to cut it out for three weeks. After that time has passed, weigh yourself, look at your skin in the mirror, and try on those jeans that have been on your "goal" shelf for months now. I can almost guarantee you that the results will be mind-blowing!
