Acura San Mateo buyers will feel even safer with these crash test ratings

When it comes to safety ratings in a family vehicle, the numbers can make or break a sale. That's why your Acura San Mateo dealer is excited about the latest crash test ratings received from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

A new 5-Star Safety Ratings system has made it more difficult for all vehicles to achieve the scores they were previously getting, but it's looking better for many models with the latest round of testing. The Acura MDX certainly performed admirably.

The NHTSA will rate 24 passenger cars, two vans, 20 SUVs and nine pickups during the first year of testing under the new system. With only some of the models tested so far, only the Honda Accord has received five stars in all categories. In the group where the Acura MDX was testes, the Chevy Cruze and XC60 had the best score with five stars for front, side and overall and four stars for the rollover test.

Customers of San Jose used cars will feel safe knowing that the Acura MDX was rated a four in overall frontal crash testing and rollover and a five in overall side crash testing with an overall vehicle score of five.

You can bet that Acura will be looking at the areas that didn't receive the highest ratings and making improvements to get them to that level. The system was revamped because under the previous scoring, most vehicles received five stars in the tested categories but had no overall vehicle rating. This made it difficult for buyers to tell which vehicles would actually perform better.

Because the system is rated differently, not all the high performers from last year's ranking will receive the highest possible score this year. But most auto makers take this as an opportunity to refine their models and receive a higher score with the next round of testing.

Customers of the Acura San Mateo dealer can get specific rating results from the dealer and will be very impressed with the number of safety systems found in Acura models everything from the number of airbags to ABS to drive and brake assist systems.

Aside from the Chevy Cruze and Acura MDX, the only other model in this testing round to receive a score of five on the overall vehicle safety was the Volvo XC60. Other models tested in this round included the Honda CR-V, Lexus Rx450h, Nissan Altima, Toyota Venza, and Volkswagen Jetta.

San Jose used cars buyers will like this new format of testing as it will provide a much clearer and more specific guide to which vehicles perform the best in a specific type of crash. This will give all car buyers more peace of mind.
