Wedding reception activities

When it comes to your wedding have you taken into account exactly what you want to have take place? The wedding is more than just people coming at the reception congratulations, and a few speeches. Some of the activities are traditional and to a certain extent are expected. On others you can deviate from the norm and do something special that will make the reception so much more memorable.

When it comes to photographs, there is the traditional photo that gets taken with family and friends at the tables. Why not have a variation of funny poses or just choreograph your own photos and get everyone involved to make the occasion more fun. Instead of having the traditional arrival and seating of guests why not have something fun like a cocktail hour. This will give the bride and groom some time to circulate and chat with guests. It is also a good ice breaker for getting people to mix and chat with each other.

Another fun thing to do can be for your arrival at the reception venue. Instead of everybody waiting inside the reception venue for the bride and groom to arrive, they can all form a reception line and having waving sparklers or blow wedding bubbles when the bride and groom arrive. The entire concept and idea is really up to you to decide. Depending on what you want for your wedding you can move away from the more traditional party formulas.

An important thing to remember when planning additional or special activities at your wedding reception is to make sure that the master of ceremonies is aware of them. In this case he /she can announce each activity that is going to take place, making sure everybody is kept in the loop of things. With most weddings there are usually some segregation between his and her side of the family. You might want to include some activities that will introduce the two sides of the family to each other, thus making sure that nobody feels left out and a good time can be had by all.

When it comes to the cake cutting, this is probably the most traditional and expected part of the wedding reception tradition. Instead of having a normal cutting implement, you can have something memorable like a sword, or some implement that is important in the traditions of both families. Instead of having the garter and bouquet toss, why not present it to different people at the wedding reception. You can for example give the bouquet and garter to the oldest couple at the wedding. This makes a nice change from the traditional method of having the toss.

At the end of the day whichever activities you decide to include in the wedding reception will make the occasion more enjoyable and memorable for all who attend. Remember that it is your wedding day and you want to make as many special memories as possible for you to enjoy for a long time to come.
