The rustic city of Bikaner occupies a prized place on the tourist map of Rajasthan. This culturally rich city has several attractions to offer starting from majestic forts to unique temples and palaces. Here you will find some of the finest architectural marvels of Rajasthan. This wonderful city is also popular for its Bhujiya (a spicy snack). This historic city was founded in 1488 AD and it also served as a trade route connecting India with Central Asia and China.

Some of the famous attractions of Bikaner are:

Junagarh Fort

It is a testimony to the rich heritage of Rajasthan. This fort never got conquered by anyone, which shows how greatly it must have been built. It was founded in 1593 AD by Raja Rai Singh who was an important general in the army of the emperor Akbar. The fort is surrounded by a moat for defensive purposes. It reflects the perfect combination of Rajput, Mughal and Gujarati styles of architecture. There are two gates of the fort namely the Suraj Pol and Karan Pol. The other striking attractions of Junagarh Fort are wall paintings, glass work, lacquer work, carvings, stucco, stone inlay works and wooden ceiling.

Some of the attractive apartments inside the Junagarh fort are Moon Palace, Phool Mahal, Karan Mahal, Anup Mahal, Har Mandir and a museum housing a rare collection of royal belongings.

Lalgarh Palace

It is a marvelous palace reflecting the perfect marriage between Mughal, Rajput and European architectural styles. Once the royal abode of the raja-maharajas, now it has been converted into a heritage hotel to offer experience of a royal stay to tourists. Its interiors are simply stunning. It also houses a museum displaying rare artifacts.

Deshnok Temple

It is a unique temple of Bikaner as it is a home to more than 20,000 rats that are treated like kings. The temple is dedicated to Karni Mata, the incarnation of goddess Durga. It is believed that the goddess live here in the 14th century. It is interesting and astonishing that there has never been any incident of disease like plague in Deshnok village.
