The Men In The Wedding

The men in the wedding comprises the best man, groomsmen, ring bearer, and ushers. Each of them have their own duties and responsibilities depending on the location, tradition, and the preference of the bride and groom.

The best man is chosen as the grooms most trustworthy and faithful friend or relative. He is the groom's right-hand man in organizing his activities for the day. His duties and responsibilities may begin before the wedding day and may last nearly after the ceremony. For some, it may take a lifetime because of a very keen relationship. Here are the duties and responsibilities of the best maN:

* Helps to host the bachelor party. It is really not necessary that a bachelor's party be conducted, but for an extra fun, they organize a party symbolizing that this is the last time the groom can have fun with the other men while he is still single.

* Pays for his own wedding attire. The bride and groom can also pay for their best man's attire, but as a help to lessen the bride and groom's expenses, he pays for his own gear.

* May help the groom finish packing

* The best man transports the groom to the church, and helps him dress for the ceremony.

* Supervises the groomsmen and ushers and makes sure they are properly dressed and that they know their duties.

* He helps the bride's mother with last-minute details.

* He attends the rehearsal and rehearsal dinner.

* The best man takes care of the bride's ring until the appropriate time during the ceremony.

* He presents the clergy person with his/her fee either just before or just after the ceremony.

* The best man, along with the maid of honor, signs the wedding certificate as a legal witness.

* He obtains the marriage license from the groom and holds it until the appropriate time for signing.

* The best man offers the first toast to the bride and groom at the reception, and reads aloud any congratulatory telegrams.

* The best man dances with the bride after the groom and both fathers have danced with her.

* Makes sure that the honeymoon car is ready and the suitcases are packed and put in the car.

* He helps the groom get into his traveling clothes-takes care of any tickets, keys, etc. given to him for safekeeping.

* He transports the newlyweds to the airport or from wherever they are leaving for their honeymoon.

The groomsmen are usually close friends, brothers, or relatives of the couple.

* They pay for their own wedding attire.

* They attend the bachelor dinner or party.

* They attend the rehearsal and rehearsal dinner.

* They escort the bridesmaids during the ceremony processional and recessional.

The ushers may be the groom's brothers, cousin, or best friends, or brothers and close relatives of the bride. Ushers have more details to attend to. They should be specifically instructed as to their responsibilities.

The ring bearer, a young boy between the ages of four and nine is usually a relative of the bride or groom or the child of a dear friend. They carry either a symbolic pillow without the actual rings (which can be held by the best man) or the actual rings can be tied onto the pillow. The ring bearer stay in the same age range as the flower girls.

To extend the gratitude and show the appreciation of the groom and bride for the special participation of these men, they can have a lot to choose from for the best man gifts, groomsmen, ushers, and for other men who attended the ceremony.
