Summer Camps i n USA

The typical summer camp in USA consists of beautiful locales, a scenic lake (if you're lucky), meandering landscapes, enthusiastic kids and supportive counselors from all over the world. Starting out as a recreational camping activity promoted by Frederick W. Gunn has now blossomed into a full-fledged industry where kids and teens can acquire a variety of skills and values, and have plenty of fun in the bargain.

Summer camps in America can be classified into various categories traditional day and overnight camps; adventure camps; theatre and dramatics camps; sports and athletics camps; religious camps; art, craft and painting camps; academic camps; special interest camps; special needs camps; adventure camps and teen programs. Traditional camps offer a more or less predictable blend of physical, educational and recreational activities, specialty camps primarily focus on one or two themes.

A sports camp, for instance, may specialize in a particular sport such as ice hockey, basketball, soccer, horseback riding, martial arts, golf camp and so on. Academic camps may involve a particular discipline such as poetry, creative writing, math, science, programming and robotics, journalism, and what-have you. Adventure camps are usually totally fun and games involving rafting, kayaking, canoeing, rock climbing trekking, and more.

Art, craft and painting camps can be interesting for everyone, but especially those with a creative bent of mind. The same is true of dance, music, theatre and dramatics. Special interest camps cater to kids with specific interests there's yoga and there's chess, sewing and fitness, fashion and cooking and much more.

Special needs camps are tailored to meet the needs of children with mental, physical, chronic or behavioral conditions or problems. While many camps take kids with special needs, there are others that take only kids with special needs.

Most summer camps impart essential life skills including decision-making, self-esteem, independence and inter-dependence, problem-solving, social confidence and smooth peer relations in an emotionally supportive and encouraging environment. Summer camps are becoming more popular with the passing years, with more than 12,000 registered camps in America.
