Why Baby Bed Guards Are Much Improved

Baby bed guards have been available for many years now. The traditional design has been very similar to the cot side that they were intended to replace. Basically the traditional design is a large wooden slatted barrier that attaches to the edge of the child's new bigger bed so as to enclose the child in the bed.

Either one of these big bed guards is used on each of the sides of a bed or the bed was pushed up against a wall to create a barrier on one side and then the wooden bed guard would be used on the open side.

These traditional styles have also been developed into metal and plastic versions but they are all fairly similar in size. They are also all quick cumbersome and heavy and take some time to fit and unfit. Where a parent wants to sit on the bed at bed time and read their child a story then they have to unfit the bed guard so they can sit on the bed. Then after they have read the bed time story they have to fit the bed guard which can be unsettling for the child.

However, the design of bed guards has moved on in recent years so there are more discreet versions on the market which still do a great job at protecting children as they sleep at night.

One of the better new designs is made from foam and is very discreet. It is a foam wedge which runs the length of the bed and is placed directly on the mattress and is help in place by the sheets being over it. This way the child does not feel so penned in and the nature of the soft foam is very comfortable for the children to roll up against and in some cases snuggle up with.

Times are always changing and this is certainly true with respect to baby bed guards which are much improved on the traditional designs. An additional benefit is that the foam guards are lightweight and portable so can be taken for sleep over and on holidays very easily.
