Valance Window Treatments

Valance window treatments are treatments that hand on a curtain rod over a window. They can be very simple or very elaborate. Valances can really compliment a room, and create a sense of style that curtains alone cannot. After all, the curtain rod can look pretty bare when the curtains are drawn to the sides, so why no liven it up all the way up there? You can make valance window treatments out of all sorts of different materials: any kind of cloth or fabric that you like, as well as wood or even sheet metal. Or you could combine two or more of these materials into your own unique product. Valances can be ruffled, or pleated, or plain. If you're feeling bold, why not go for a rainbow of colors or a sunburst effect? In fact, you might not realize it but you probably have all the materials you need to make valances at home right now: namely, a sewing machine and some thread, some scissors, a tape measurer, and of course some fabric. (This is a great way to reuse old sheets or other pieces of fabric that you don't want anymore.) You can find detailed instructions on how to make these treatments on the Internet. Simply Google DIY and "Valence window treatments" and keep on searching until you find a pattern that you like. This can even make for a great rainy day project to complete with your kids or your spouse! If you choose to buy your valances from a store instead, bear in mind that there are several popular styles that you can choose from. The paneled valance is a very hip and current type of valance. It includes panels that can be in virtually any geometric shape: triangles, square, circular. You can also get valances with all kinds of decorative features, including tassels, gold lining and special trim made out of fabric. Valances can be displayed no matter what kind of other treatment you have on your windows: shades, blinds, or curtains. You can even have hang a valance above a completely bare window. They make for inexpensive decorative features. And if you get tired of the way your valance looks, you can simply change the way that you display it. You can hang it at a different angle, or upside down, or add some more fabric to decorate it. You might be surprised how a simple adjustment can really change the way an entire room looks.
