Kruger Park Tours How To Survive Lion or Croc Attacks

Sure, Kruger National Park tours are luxurious, exciting and great for the whole family. Guided tours and game drives provide endless wildlife viewing that will take your breath away. The lavish camps and sensational African cuisine will delight your taste buds, but what if things don't go according to plan? What if, somehow, you lose your group and armed guide, and find yourself in the bush - face-to-face with an advanced hunting machine? To assist you in these situations, we have put together a little "How To" guide so that you can save yourself against two of the most dangerous beasts you could see on Kruger Park Tours.

How to survive a lion attack:

RUN!!! No don't, I'm just kidding - you will die. Lions are chase animals and running from a lioness that is hunting you will just spark her interest in chasing you down, latching onto your throat and sharing you with friends. If you get lost in the wild, try to stay in places with dense vegetation. Lions try to hunt in the plains, as thick vegetation slows them down, alerts their prey and can also cause injury during a chase. Keep your eyes on the lion, back up toward a tree or place of safety, and if they attempt to come at you, spread your arms and make as much noise as you can. No prey attempts to intimidate them, if you do, they could lose interest and look for an easier kill.

Survive a croc attack:

Ok, let's get this out of the way early - getting caught in a crocodile's jaws in the water is likely to result in your death. They can hold their breath longer, they are stronger and their teeth are bigger. Therefore it is always important to be aware of your surroundings, and stay clear of infested waters. If you do get to close to a crocodile on land, run. It is a common misconception that these animals will outrun you, bring you down and turn you into lunch. The average adult should be able to outrun a croc as they tire quickly on land. Also, run in a straight line - running in a zigzag pattern allows it to catch up to you faster. If you are caught in the jaws and it is attempting to drag you to the water, the following options could save you:

Attack its eyes with all you have.

Pound the nostrils or ears (some people have been saved from the jaws of this prehistoric beast thanks to hitting it on the snout with a pole or club).

Open the palatal valve. This flap of tissue, behind the tongue, covers their throats when they have their mouths open in the water. If you can get the flap down, water will come in, choking the animal - this could result in it letting you go.
