Child Obesity: Parents Are The Key

If you have a child who looks overweight for his age and height, chances are that he or she may be obese. Take a look first at you and your spouse and other kids. Are you a family of overweight? If the answer is NO, you have all the reasons to be concerned. The Child Obesity issue is being addressed very seriously by the Obama Administration. However, the prevention can be addressed by the parents themselves in cooperation with the child and other people like the caregivers and school personnel. Parents and schools can come up with effective child obesity prevention policies focused on healthy, low fat, low calorie foods and effective physical exercise programs.

It is a must therefore for you to be knowledgeable on the nutrition and the healthy lifestyle aspect because if you are not, how can you train your obese child? Adapt the "New Start" program. The word is an acronym of N which stands for Nutrition, E for Energy, W for Water, S for Sunlight, A for Air, R for Rest and T for Temperance. With this program, you can train your overweight child these simple letter symbols to go back to a normal and average weight as he grows up. Training him to develop the right attitude about balanced lifestyle and healthy habits is quite critical.

Do some research in the internet websites and absorb whatever information on nutrition, vitamins, minerals, dietary supplement, fruits, green leafy vegetables, grains, nuts, child exercises and weight loss programs. Bring him to a doctor. Then have a meeting with the school teachers and check on the food snacks being sold to students. If the foods in the school will only make your child gain weight, prepare his own food and snacks to bring to school.

As long as you monitor your child's activities on all areas like his food and the physical activity he is engaged in. Is he spending too much time playing with his computer, gadgets or watching TV? Is he involved in any sports activities like swimming, soccer or basketball? If he is not because he easily gets tired, do a family regular brisk walking exercise three times a week before going to school. Remember that you and your spouse are the key to your child's obesity problem. You are the solution and the prevention. Everything is in your hands
