Adopting Your First Pet

If you are looking to adopt your first pet, remember that this is a big decision. The type of pet you choose should reflect your current lifestyle and your personal preferences. For example, if you have a lot of spare time and you enjoy exercise then a dog just may be the perfect pet for you. But if you travel a lot and you dont have a lot of time to dedicate to walks then a cat or a fish may be better suited to your home. Below are some things you should take into consideration before picking out your next pet. 1. Look around at several locations before choosing a pet. Local shelters are always a great place to find your next pet. You may also want to consider petfinder.com which lists numerous pets that are in need of a good home in your area. If you dont want to spend a lot of money on your pet then take a look at craigslist.com. There are many pets listed for free to a good home. 2. Consider the amount of time you have to invest before choosing your next pet. Adopting a kitten or a puppy can be an incredibly rewarding decision, however do keep in mind that they require a huge time commitment and have needs similar to a human baby. 3. If you have little money or time to invest in a pet, consider getting something a little less common. Fish for example usually only require fish tanks, fish pellets and weekly cleanings. Never get a pet that you cant afford to take care of or that you dont have the time to invest in.
