The Secret Bars of London

Once in a while it is always nice to discover your new favourite bar or pub which is a little under the radar, hidden away from the masses and offers something different to your usual meet up with friends for a drink. Or you maybe visiting London and are determined to avoid the tourist trap bars and pubs in London and are keen to discover some secret bars in London to make your trip memorable.

I am constantly on the search for new, exciting and unique bars across London and now I have decided to share a few secret bars with the public. I will start in Shoreditch, perhaps my favourite place in London to wonder the streets and stumble upon something new and cutting edge. If you take a trip down Curtain Road, you would certainly not be aware that Ninety Eight Bar and Lounge exists as there is no sign and is in a basement which accessed by a spiral staircase tucked nicely away from the main road. Once you navigate the spiral staircase, you will be positively blown away by the magical setting of NinetyEight Bar, interior design consisting of the ideas and inspiration of the owner and is a quirky, fun cocktail bar with delicious drinks! A grand piano is set at the back so if you are lucky you may catch a live showing.

Staying in Shoreditch, there is another secret bar waiting to be discovered. If you are lucky enough to have found Callooh Callay then you would be buzzing with the vibe of this 1920's, speakeasy era bar. Dig a little deeper and you may find the hidden bar called the Jub Jub Bar.

A recent discovery of mine was on Charlotte Street, an area known as Fitzrovia or Noho, and it was pure luck I found this secret bar in London. It is called Shochu barand is hidden beneath the fantastic Roko Japanese restaurant. It is a cool, hip basement cocktail bar and has an edge to it that would border on Manhattan level of coolness. The music is of the kind to keep you feet tapping but also creates a vibe where you feel you are in a special place and you have to keep your eyes open on the beautiful clientele and even the odd celebrity I hear!

For something quirky and a little different, The Arts Theatre Club is a hidden gem in the heart of Soho. It is inspired by all things Theatre and is for the thespian inside you! It is homage to the world of theatre, with memorabilia from all kinds of shows, but pleasantly the drinks are tasty and very reasonably priced, drinkonomical I would say!

Finally, my last secret bar of London is located in Mayfair. Automat bar is the epitome of cool, deservedly off the radar and incredibly exclusive. This one will be a challenge to get entrance to, but it is possible, and once inside you will feel like you are part of the A-list crowd in London! It adopts New York's inimitable style and is dark, moody and brooding, I felt like I was in a film as I sat back in a booth sipping on my Dark and Stormy!

Hope you enjoy these secret bars of London, let me know what you think.
