Why Reading With Your Children Is Important

Reading is extremely important. Kids who grow up reading by cordless picture lights are truly a step ahead of those who were without cordless picture light and a good book. It is important to be able to understand literature, for example, the women of Othello represent three different types of women on a global scale. Desdemona represents the true and pure woman who is smart, and beautiful but often too nave and optimistic with men and love, Emilia embodies the classic feminist; a clich man-hater who is being oppressed by the male-dominated world and Bianca is the tragic girl who is dependent upon men to validate her, but only with sex and is left empty in the end. Shakespeare uses these women's conversations with one another and men to reveal the vices of each type of women and the dangers women face.Desdemona's lines throughout the play reveal her naivety and optimistic attitude when it comes to the male race. She often speaks with euphonic language such as describing Othello with such nice words. She continues using such language to describe Othello throughout the play, which shows her glorification of men. Desdemona often mentions the word heaven, and again when discussing women who cheat on their husbands with Emilia. The mention of heaven or light paints Desdemona in an angelic manner---pure---which juxtaposes the way Othello now sees her. Exclamation points are used with Desdemona's lines only twice in these excerpts. The monster being jealous and again when she exclaims that she would not be impure to Othello. In both of these instances, she is discussing a form of sin, envy and adultery. By using exclamation points only in these instances, it emphasizes Desdemona's righteousness.Similarly, punctuation is used to reveal Bianca's shortcomings and her relationship with men. Bianca's lines are heavily cluttered with exclamation points and question marks. This reveals her dependence on men for validation. The question marks reveal her distrust and jealousy because she needs Cassio to want her and the exclamations reveal her anger, and desperation at the thought of losing her source of self-confidence. Bianca's relationship with men is complex because men are an evil that keeps her from reaching her full potential on her own, but they also make her feel good in the short-term and she fears losing that comfort. This can also be seen in the jumble from question to exclamation in Bianca's speech, and the lack of any periods. A period would be she is saying a declarative sentence, a declaration. She does not have enough self-confidence on her own to do so.These types of things are what kids need to be able to analyze from books by the time they are in high school and in college. Reading is more than just reading, being able to understand and comprehend is also important. By fueling a healthy interest in books at an early age you can help them develop great reading skills. It will help them develop into a better person overall as well.
