ADHD Behavior Problems –Are You And Your Child On The Right Track?

ADHD Behavior Problems Are You And Your Child On The Right Track?

Why are ADHD behavior problems so hard to solve? The first reason is that many parents do not give this enough attention. They think that the main problems can be solved with medication and they are not too worried about behavior. If the medication makes the child calmer and less hyperactive, then they probably think that they are on the right track. The sad truth is that they are not!

The first reason is that no medication can ever teach a child to resolve ADHD behavior problems. Pills cannot teach skills and when the same pills cause drowsiness, sleep problems and loss of weight, we begin to wonder why on earth we ever started down this road.

The problems are that as many as 30% of the children on these ADHD meds are not going to benefit and that the side effects are so distressful that they just have to stop taking them. They may lose appetite, have stunted growth and have real challenges when it comes to getting a good night's sleep.

So let us say that a child is impulsive, defiant or aggressive and you do not know where to start. The first thing to look for is to get information available on effective parenting so that you know what to do in certain situations. You will be able to get ideas and strategies for dealing with impulsive actions like dashing across the road.

Then there will be techniques to help you set up a behavior modification plan and how to explain what unacceptable behavior is and how to praise and reinforce the good behavior when it happens. We have to make sure that we really do notice good behavior when it happens and reward it accordingly.

There are additional problems because it is now estimated that as many as 40% of ADHD children will also have some form of defiant disorder and that can lead to angry outbursts plus a complete disregard for parents'authority or indeed any form of authority.

Unless we have some sort of behavior modification plan in place, we are not really going get to grips with these ADHD behavior problems at all. But if we combine this sort of treatment with a homeopathic remedy, we are well on the way to making sure that we are on the right track for a much happier family life.
