Causes Of ADHD In Children Looking At Different Treatment Options Which Work Better

I have just read an interesting article in Clinical Pediatrics where Dr. Ruff argues that one of the possible causes of ADHD in children could be our modern lifestyle. He explains in that article that because we are so consumer oriented and rely so much on gadgetry to get things done, this has an impact on the child's brain which is very delicate at this stage.

It also means that he has trouble in adjusting to the normal process of sitting down quietly and concentrating on the printed page and even learning things by heart. All his gadgets, video games and mobile phones can do all these things in an instant.

Interestingly enough in the 800 families of the Amish community in Indiana, there is not one case of ADHD diagnosed. They do not allow TV or video games so that may well be an explanation.

Other causes of ADHD in children are the mainly biological one where certain brain transmitters responsible for executive actions and paying attention are faulty and just not working properly. Then there are possible environmental reasons related to the pregnancy of the mother, the home environment where exposure to lead could be a possible co- factor but the latter has not been conclusively proved.

Another one of the causes of ADHD in children is the genetic link. There is now pretty conclusive evidence that this may be decisive. It seems that parents who have ADHD are four times more likely to have a child themselves who will have ADHD.

In looking at the safer ADHD treatment options, we can dismiss the ADHD meds as there are too many uncertainties and problems associated with them and they are limited in their efficacy and also in the length of time they can be used.

It is much safer to look at homeopathic remedies for ADHD because they take a completely different holistic approach and are going to restore the balance of body and mind in the child. This means in effect that they can keep them calmer, there is less restlessness and hyperactivity. The child is able to focus much better and there are improvements in his grades at school. The great advantage is that there are no side effects at all and there are certainly no risks of addiction.

Don't you owe it to your child to check this out instead of worrying too much about the causes of ADHD in children? You will be giving him the best possible chance of coping successfully with his ADHD.
