Dentistry Bellevue What You Need to Get About Tooth Decay

Digestion of food, according to medical experts, starts from the mouth. The teeth are a very vital part of the digestive system because most of the foods we eat are first chewed with the teeth before they move to other parts of the body. The importance of good dental hygiene and having annual check-ups at the dentist has been taught to us ever since we were children. Even when you are not going to the dentist, it is also important that you brush your teeth each day, twice per day even though going to the dentist is crucial for preventing serious diseases.

One of the most common mistakes that many of their patients make is choosing the wrong toothbrush, dentists usually say. When you are buying a toothbrush, you will probably notice that some say soft, medium and hard. A toothbrush with rounded bristles and is labeled "soft" is what you need to look for instead. Your gums and wearing of your teeth will happen over a certain amount of time by using a toothbrush that is too hard. Many dentists will give their patients a toothbrush each year when they come for their visit. Changing your toothbrush every three months is however recommended.

Tooth decay is the most common problem in dental care circles. Medically, it is known as dental caries. Bacteria which attack three parts of the teeth including the enamel, dentine, and cement by converting glucose, fructose and sucrose into acids such as lactic acid through a process known as fermentation and this is what is tooth decay. Making the tooth to be painful or bleed, it creates holes in the tooth.

Oral hygiene is one way to prevent tooth decay. Many people across the globe do not take their oral health very seriously as research has shown because they only brush their teeth once in a day. It is recommended that you should brush your teeth twice daily. Because fluoride ions are capable of protecting the teeth from bacterial attack, use fluoride toothpaste or mouthwash.

Make sure to brush your tongue as well when you have finished brushing your teeth. Halitosis or bad breath can be avoided in this way. Since most germs that cause bad breath reside towards the back of your tongue, you will need to brush back as far as you can for at least 10-15 brushes then work your way toward the front of your tongue.

Have you looked at the possibility that you could be brushing your teeth incorrectly? Not only will your oral hygiene be useless but it can hurt your teeth as well when you are brushing your teeth in an improper manner. The recommended motion is small circles in a gentle manner after you have applied toothpaste to your brush. Start at the gum line and brush to the top of the teeth on the up strokes and to the bottom of the teeth on the down strokes. You should not forget your back teeth as well. Remember to floss your teeth which you should do before brushing.
