Should I Take Out Wedding Insurance?

Getting married is a stressful time. It will certainly be one of the most memorable days of your life, whether for good or bad. Most weddings have something go wrong - usually something simple - but as the day approaches one can begin to stress that it is all going to blow up in one's face. When something goes wrong at a wedding, then the situation needs to be fixed immediately to avoid losing face in front of all of your friends and family.

One of the newer modern inventions tasked with taking some of this burden off the bride and groom is wedding insurance. Wedding insurance is designed to take the financial worry out of something going wrong at or before the wedding. In terms of the cost of a wedding, wedding insurance is very inexpensive, usually costing less than $1000, and it can take the worry out of something major going wrong at the wedding. A typical wedding costs around $30,000. You wouldn't buy something for that price without insuring it, and a wedding should perhaps be no different.

What type of things does wedding insurance cover? This depends on the coverage you have purchased, but a basic plan will include cover for unexpected weather conditions that have to postpone your wedding. The cost of rescheduling the wedding will be covered. If someone essential to the wedding becomes very sick and the wedding needs to be postponed, then this cost too will be covered. If something goes wrong with an essential vendor such as the photographer, caterer, florist, or the minister conducting the ceremony, you can recoup some of the costs of a last-minute replacement or postponement.

More expensive wedding insurance will cover things like the wedding dress and bridesmaid gowns being damaged, or the businesses that supply them going out of business before you get your dresses. Your honeymoon can be covered, if you are unable to go due to illness or bad weather.

Additional insurance can cover gifts from theft or damage. Insurance can be purchased to cover liability if a guest gets injured at your wedding then the wedding insurance will cover the cost. However, remember that many reception locations will include this cover automatically. It does pay to check though.

What isn't covered? If you or your prospected spouse get cold feet and decide not to march down the aisle, wedding insurance does not pay out.
