Jayawardene: Playing Out Of The Country Keeps Us Bonded

The Sri Lanka team is feeling better after coming out of their country to India. They were feeling little pressure while they played their first five group matches at home. The Sri Lanka vice-captain, Mahela Jayawardene stated that the team has now got some time to spend together after being away from their home grounds.

Jayawardene stated that when they were at home as a team there are many things that have happened. They hardly spent time together by just practicing and getting back and everything will be normal. However, the team has spent some quality time in Kandy and Hambantota. Sri Lankan team has travelled to Mumbai in-order to play their final group match ofICC World Cup 2011 against New Zealand on Friday, March 18th 2011.

Unfortunately, New Zealand captain Daniel Vettori and the team's fast bowler, Kyle Mills are unable to play for the team for the upcoming match. Jayawardene stated that the absence of the two experienced players will not affect them much because they concentrate on the team's effort and not any individual players currently. He added that despite of not having Vettori and Mills, the team might have a new game plan against them for the better result.

Keeping in view of the past five matches of Sri Lanka, they have won three games they played but one match being cancelled against Australia due to rain and lost against Pakistan. They had huge wins against Canada won by 210 runs, against Kenya by winning with 9 wickets and against Zimbabwe, won by 139 runs. Sri Lanka has lost the match against Pakistan by 11 runs due to the match winning spell of Shahid Afridi crucial four wickets at right times.

New Zealand has won four matches out of five and lost one game against Australia. The team has huge wins over Kenya, Zimbabwe, Pakistan and Canada. Taylor batted well against Pakistan by scoring an unbeaten 131 runs including eight fours and seven sixes. He also scored 74 runs including six fours and five huge sixes against Canada by scoring. Taylor has been in a great form and he adds a positive sign to the batting side of the team.

By the past records of the respective teams, Sri Lanka has a win-loss ratio of 1.80 in the One Day Internationals since last two years. New Zealand is lagging back of Sri Lanka having a win-loss ratio of 0.73 in the past results of ODIs. Hopefully, Jayawardene is spending a quality time since he did not get a chance to bat in the last two games. He was dismissed by a good delivery by Shoaib Akhtar against Pakistan match and was run-out against Australia after getting some good start for the team. Mahela Jayawardene would love to spend much more time in the middle-order before getting into the quarter finals.
